Montgomery, Alabama, the capital, has a population of only a little over 200,000; an extremely little big city. The cost of living is nearly 15% below the national average and the unemployment rate in Montgomery is on par with the rest of the nation. Montgomery has a glorious culture and there are many great churches and colleges. They have a fabulous zoo, fine parks and a happening river front. Lake Jordan and Lake Martin are nearby for family fun and they both provide some of the finest boating and fishing around.

Birmingham, Alabama is only slightly bigger than the capital, with a population of near 230,000. The unemployment rate is at about 10% but the cost of living is 20.7% below the national average. The area differs dramatically from street to street. The best schools and housing, according to residents, are generally along and south of Red Mountain in the suburbs. There are also a lot of great places to shop, many family-oriented things to do, lots of great restaurants and a variety of clubs.

Alabama is a laid-back state that has more of a community-feel than many states. The major cities are extremely small by comparison to other states. Buying a foreclosure in Alabama will open the door to a quality of life unlike any other.
